Do-It-Yourself Window Film Florida

Buying do-it-yourself window film kits in Florida has never been easier! You can shop for DIY window film from the comfort of your own home with Apex Window Films. Florida customers are mainly interested in our solar control window films, that block heat and glare and reduce the need for air conditioning. Nobody likes to turn that air conditioning unit on when it isn't all that hot outside, but in sunny Florida, even on a cool day, the sun can really heat up the window area in a room. These so-called 'hot spots' can make some sunny rooms intolerably hot, even when it is mild outside. Solar control window films are the answer to the problem of hot spots. Installing solar films will mitigate solar heat gain, while still permitting natural light flow. While in the past some Florida home owners shied away from installing window film because they did not like dark window tinting or silvery reflective films on their houses, modern solar control window films are available in wide variety of tints and hues, including clear, almost unnoticeable infrared blocking window films.

More and more of our Florida DIY customers are interested in installing hurricane film, known in other parts of the country as severe weather film. We know that most damage and injury during severe weather episodes like hurricanes can be caused by sharp shards of broken glass, flying inwards from an impact or high winds. Hurricane film, or safety film helps to hold glass intact in the event of accidental or intentional breakage to prevent damage to property or injury to people.

Safety films are also idea for home on golf courses, to strengthen glass against the impact of a stray golf ball.

Apex Window Films offers a variety of safety and security window films to protect against severe weather, impacts and break and enter. Safety films are available in both clear and tinted for those that would like the benefits of a solar film. Both clear and tinted safety and security films block almost all UV rays for even more protection from the damaging ultraviolet rays of the sun.

WARNING: Due to thermal stress, solar control films should not be installed on thermal pane windows where the glass has been treated with a LOW-E coating.

Automotive film should never be installed on thermal pane windows. Dark, highly absorbing film should not be installed on large thermal pane windows where there is uneven sun exposure (partial shading for example) on the window creating uneven heat distribution over the glass. Solar films are not recommended for Georgian wire glass. Solar films should never be installed on damaged, chipped or cracked glass. Roof windows/skylights should be fitted with exterior window films. Further, the International Window Film Association (IWFA) recommends that solar control film should not be used on: single pane glass larger than 100 square feet, double pane glass larger than 40 square feet, clear glass thicker than 3/8 inch, tinted glass thicker than 1/4 inch, window framing systems of concrete, solid aluminum, or solid steel, glass where sealant or glazing compound has hardened, reflective, wired, textured, or patterned glass, triple pane glass, or laminated glass windows. There are a variety of types of solar control films which may address thermal stress in specific applications, please contact us for appropriate alternatives for your windows (exterior films, for example) if you have conerns or any of the above types of glass/windows.

Never apply solar control window film to only part of a window as it may cause the glass to break.

It is extremely unlikely that appropriately installed window film (as per above) will harm your windows. In the rare event that a window does break, that break is almost always a result of the film putting stress on a pre-existing window defect. As we are unable to inspect and evaluate the do-it-yourself clients' window system, or verify the cause of the breakage, Apex Window Films cannot accept liability in the unlikely event that the glass breaks.
